Riding an electric-bike is primarily very enjoyable but with the latest ranges of electric bike and the current traffic conditions coupled with the construction of cycle paths, it is increasingly enjoyable. Travelling along virtually silently in the open air with little effort is a rewarding experience. It also has practical applications such as commuting to work, park and ride, exercise, and recreation. For many the decision to ride an electric bike is the answer to a difficult question – fitness to ride a push bike, unable to get a licence for a motor vehicle, problems and cost of parking, not wishing to arrive in a bath of perspiration and convenience, to mention but a few
The latest generation of electric bikes with 36 volt Lithium battery technology, aluminium frames and generally upgraded equipment and electronics are about half the weight of earlier steel framed models with lead acid batteries and travel twice the range.
AXcess-Electric-Bikes was formed in 2010 to supply these markets for electric bikes where it appeared to be poorly supplied at present. Other plans were put on hold while we decided to open 2 branches – one in Honiton, Devon and one in Lake on the Isle of Wight. (See Contact Us.) They are run by two brothers and are stocking the same ranges of bikes so we can share the same web site.
By 1st December 2010 the 2 branches are open and trading as retail branches and with repair facilities. Each has a dedicated electric bike repair specialist, who, of course can also repair push bikes. The web site is, of course an ongoing exercise, but we are striving to make it more relevant and interesting for prospective purchasers.
We do not import electric bikes ourselves, but purchase direct from importers who have very close contact with their suppliers to control specifications and continuity of supply. We only purchase from suppliers who import directly into the UK so that we minimise the supply chain and the number of companies handling the bikes before they are sold. Early electric bikes were hindered by the lack of spares, our suppliers are committed to providing a full spares back up. In fact FreeGo even say that if they are unable to repair one of their bikes under 1 year old within 5 working days, they will give you a new bike!
