Main features are the black mudguards and black battery case and black all painted handlebars, stem and seat post  This gives the bike a sporty feel and which is more at home on muddy tracks.

The 2017 model has full length black mudguards as standard, though mountain bike ones can be fitted as an option. The chain wheel has also been increased in size to 48Teeth which means that you can pedal the bike faster.  The full chain guard has been retained

Since 2016 all Axcess range bikes are fitted with new battery technology. The cells in the battery are constructed differently, each cell is smaller and manufactured similarly to a standard dry cell. This provides more concentrated energy in each cell (known as 18650 cells)and improved quality assurance.  The height of the 16 Ah battery has been reduced from 470 mm. to 400 mm and weight reduced by 900 gms.  A silver coloured 16 Ah battery can be fitted as an option and the battery will not impede the lowering of the saddle.

The new thumb throttle works up to 4mph. and makes it even easier and safe to start off on a hill or in traffic.  When pedalling the thumb throttle will instantly give you full power upto15.5mph. But if you stop pedalling, the bike will slow to 4mph.

The Shetland frame is the same length as the full size Hunter from the seat post to the head tube, 57 cm (22.5″) and with the added forward bend on the handlebars, the bike is comfotable to ride even for a larger person.  The handlebars are anodised aluminium and together with the plastic mountain bike mudguards, the bike can be more suitable for a marine environment.  With this style of mudguard,we always fit a 3rd mudguard behind the battery to protect the electrics ( and the rider!).

All the electric components are modular, so any broken components can be plugged in without any soldering and the factory sealed junction box on the front of the handlebar stem is waterproof.  These bikes utilise as many standard bike components as possible, so that they can be repaired anywhere without coming back to us.

The Axcess Folding bike bag is a good way of storing the bike when folded, and the two handles mean that two people can carry the bike, one from each side.

Folded Dimensions:

Length:  84 cm. (30″).   Height 74 cm (26″)  Width 47 cm (19″)

The bike frame and motor is guaranteed for 24 months.

The batteries have a 24 month qualified guarantee.  90% capacity after 12 months and 80% capacity aftr 24 months.  The right is reservrd to inspect the battery for signs of neglect, lack of use, misuse or immersion in water.

Other components are guaranteed for 12 months with the exception of consumable items.

I bought an Axcess Shetland folding bike. It is well finished and well made. The 20″ wheels makes it smaller when folded but still capable of handling rough surfaces. The 2″ wide tyres also make the ride softer and give better grip on loose surfaces. It is easy to get on, and the thumb throttle gives a boost to get you going. Being unfit and overweight and 70 it enables me to go up gentle hills and extends the distances I could travel on foot. On hills of 30ft rise in 300ft or more, I am still limited before I run out of puff. On shallowers slopes there is no problem. For steep slopes I walk the bike (using the thumb throttle). A geared crank drive might be better on steeper hills, but they are more expensive and I hear they can be more difficult to repair. This appears simple, I’m all for keeping it simple.
My use of this bike is mainly to travel to a set destination by car and then use it on mainly unsurfaced green lanes for wildlife surveying. It would make a good about town shopper as it comes with a solid rear parcel rack, you can put a lot in their rear double pannier.Overall I am quite happy with it, it does what it is supposed to do.

I recently purchased an Axcess Shetland folding Ebike. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to it but I think it is brilliant. No more walking up hills and it fits easily into the car. Dealer was very helpful.

Mr & M

We unfortunately purchased the wrong size bikes to fit in our motorhome but Access bikes were willing to swap these for foldable versions. Very happy with the bikes and the service.

We purchased two Shetland folding bikes, we are happy with them, I did find it different to get used to at first, my husband rides his to work everyday, his only comment is they are quite heavy to pick up when folded, but we are in our sixties, would recommend to others.

I purchased a Shetland folding electric bike just before Christmas. I have used it frequently and I have been very impressed with it.

Personal service of the owner Peter Blackman and his staff. Many good quality Ebikes to see and try.
It’s an attractive bike so I feel good riding it. Having Power assist is so great as I switch power on when I am struggling up hill. Without power assist, I would not have a bike to be able to enjoy our countryside
The staff assisting us were very helpful - allowing us plenty of time to compare the wide range of options, and trying out several models in the forecourt / service road. We ended up buying two models - the one we intended to buy for myself (Exmoor) AND one for my husband (Hunter). The electrical assistance cuts in only when you feel you need it, and that means we can enjoy cycling again: we had found the hills of Devon too much of a challenge, after moving here from SE London, on an ordinary push-bike. Really pleased with the whole experience, and the bikes.
