E-bikes are becoming increasingly popular all over the world, and rightly so. The advantages to taking an e-bike for a spin as part of your daily commute or just as an alternative to the regular bike are endless.
Bikes are usually regarded as the epitome of ecologically aware travel. Many people have changed parts of their daily journeys into work, replacing the bus or personal car with bikes. But now more and more people are choosing to go one up and replace regular bikes with e-bikes. These vehicles offer the opportunity to go faster, with the battery powered propulsion getting the rider moving at speeds that could easily hit 15-20 miles per hour.
e-Bikes – A better choice
What makes e-bikes a better choice over mopeds is the fact that they are very eco-friendly and rely on batteries rather than fossil fuels. They are the perfect middle ground if you’re looking to get a little extra help with the pedals but don’t want a full-blown petrol-head engine. E-bikes come in a wide range of designs and colours, so the battery doesn’t have to be bulky or unsightly. In fact, there are certain models which incorporate a battery disguised as a water bottle, so the e-bike looks just like your old bicycle.
E-bikes are easy to use – the motor can often be activated by a simple on/off button, or by a handle similar to a throttle that bikers can pull whenever they need a little extra speed. When the motor is not needed and is kept switched off, an e-bike has all the functionality and features of a push bike – so buying an e-bike doesn’t have to be the end of physical activity.
In fact, e-bikes are currently taking on a progressive role in helping cardiac patients recover and are often recommended by medical professionals as a great transition between a stationary bike and a regular pedal-powered bike. On top of playing an important part in the rehabilitation of cardiac patients, e-bikes can also prove to be an invaluable asset in our everyday exercise routine. While some people may be daunted by the prospect of taking a regular bike out for a long journey, the e-bike might prove to be compelling enough!
E-bikes are loved not only by commuters and urban folk with hectic schedules who need a way to get around. In fact, even police forces in some US towns have adopted e-bikes as transportation, and there’s talk that police officers in London may start using them soon too!
